Abstract

According to the National Council for the Environment (CONAMA), organic waste is represented by the organically sourced part of solid waste and can be composted, and its management is provided for in the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS). Even making up more than 50% of the total Urban Solid Waste, the management of organic waste still faces difficulties that go through the assimilation of the compost generated at the end of the process. In the city of Araraquara/SP, a pre-disposition to local and sustainable economic arrangements was observed, with the emergence of social companies such as Minhocaria, which performs organic waste management. This research seeks to analyze the company from the theoretical-methodological perspectives of the Circular Economy (CE), since this model enables the assimilation of the compost generated at the end of the composting process, and is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. In this sense, a participant methodology will be used, with fieldwork and collaboration in the compost yard of this company. Finally, it is worth noting that the issue of waste is part of the reality of all spheres of society, and allows Minhocaria to be presented as a concrete example for the formulation of public policies and effective waste management toward sustainable development.(AU)
