Abstract Given the importance of controlling gastrointestinal nematodes in cattle, it is necessary to search for alternatives such as the use of resistant animals and the diversity of the host genome. Therefore, research on epigenetic mechanisms can be used as a tool for the identification and possible selection of resistant animals. Thus, the objective is to analyze the global DNA methylation content and the existence of epigenetic variability, correlating with the degree of helminth in 60 contemporary Nellore steers, kept on pasture, evaluated monthly for one year by means of egg counting per gram of feces (OPG). The mean OPG counts will be submitted to analysis of variance (ANOVA), considering three classifications (resistant, resilient and susceptible) and subsequent statistical analysis by the Scott-Knott test (5%) to assess the percentage of animals within each classification by through the SISVAR programs. From the DNA extracted from the blood of the steers, the global genomic methylation of the animals will be analyzed, as well as the epigenomic profile of each one using the MSAP technique. The epigenomic data, along with the biometric data, will be subjected to principal component analysis using the residual correlation matrix obtained by the joint analysis of variance using the GENES program.
