Abstract

The aim of this project is to understand the role of Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship in Lukács' Theory of the Novel, linking the author's interpretation of Goethe's work, in the second part of his work, to his conception of the novel form, in the first part of the book. The aim is to compare Lukács' investigation, both in terms of the novel form and his interpretation of Goethe's work, with the interpretations and formulations of German philosophy and aesthetics, especially in Schlegel, Schiller, and Hegel. With this, it is expected to broaden Lukács' interpretation of Goethe, as well as contribute to an understanding of the novel insofar as it is decisive for the novel form and for literature as a whole.(AU)
