Abstract

The need to understand the processes of production of symbolic goods in such a way that is not restricted to national borders, instead of methodologic nationalism, is already a point of agreement in the analyzes that focus on these processes. However, even if it is indisputable that a sociological study of cultural practices must analyze the inscription of these same practices in a transnational space, the reconstruction of this inscription must be carried out according to the object of the study. In our case, the Casa 7 group. Regarding the international dimension (outside Brazil), the art market from the 1980s was ruled by the discussion about the return of a quite traditional genre in Art History: the painting. From the hypothesis that the use of the international painting associated with this return, titled "neo-expressionism", was an affirmation strategy of the Casa 7 group in the Brazilian artistic field conditioned by the disputes between the centers of artistic production, I will investigate the circulation of this dominant production in various French archives. Therefore, the research work can move towards a more accurate understanding of the first Casa 7's position-takings in Brazil, considering, in addition to what was happening in the Brazilian artistic field, the transnational dynamics that conditioned these same position-takings. The study will also analyze the international recognition of the artists of the Brazilian group in relation to that obtained by neo-expressionist artists from Europe and the United States. (AU)
