Abstract

Pesticides are widely used for the control of unwanted factors in crops, such as pests, disease,s and weed infestation. Specifically, herbicides are an important group of pesticides and are widely used in Brazil, with reductions in crop yields of up to 40%. When applied to the soil, these products can undergo several dissipation processes, being found in groundwater and, affecting important organisms in the soil. Nanotechnology is capable of reducing the effects caused by the dissipation of these products, as well as the doses used, in view of the development of the nano-delivery system, which is capable of transporting the product to specific places in the plant. However, little is known about the effects of nanoformulations on non-target organisms, especially soil organisms, which may come into direct contact with these products soon after application. This work aims to verify the benefits caused by nanoencapsulation of herbicides with biodegradable particles in relation to soil bioindicators (Eisenia andrei), consisting in the preparation of acute and chronic toxicity tests, and bioaccumulation in these organisms. After measuring the sub-lethal doses in the acute toxicity test, the results will be applied to analyze the effect of these doses on the reproduction of the organisms, as well as the amount that the product is absorbed and accumulated by the earthworms. It is hoped to contribute to the scientific community regarding the use of nanotechnologies for the safe handling of pesticides.(AU)
