Abstract

This research project aims to study the news coverage of women's soccer in Brazil in hegemonic and non-hegemonic media spaces, considering the focus on the construction of gender relations, on the mediatization of this journalistic agenda and on the journalistic visibility of women's sport. In order to do so, the objects we selected for the present study are Rede Globo's and Dibradoras' journalistic content on multiple platforms, from open television to cyberspace, during a period of one year, in 2023, when Australia and New Zealand will host the FIFA Women's World Cup. The purpose of this study is to analyze and discuss the scenario that claims for women's football to receive recognition, proper infrastructure, professionalization, visibility and legitimacy in national territory. We will do this by studying five clubs in the State of São Paulo: Corinthians, Palmeiras, São Paulo, Santos and Ferroviária. In this sense, we will discuss the role of sports journalism in its historical relationship with women's football, the way in which this sport is presented by the media to the receiver, how the news is composed and which mediatization strategies are put into practice. Therefore, the justification for this analysis is based on the investigation of the development of women's relationship with journalism and this spectacular sport, which is football, in the mediatized society, in a study whose sociocultural character of media processes stands out.
