This research project aims to build a critical biography of the life and political activities of peasant leader José Honorato Lemos. In the context of his militancy in defense of peasants in the interior of the state of São Paulo, Lemos was assassinated in 1953. Aiming to rescue the farmer's life story, the project intends to contribute to the Social History of the Brazilian countryside. It seeks to understand the trajectory of Honorato's formation and political performance and his role in the peasant movement. The research ranges from his migration from the state of Alagoas to the interior of São Paulo in the 1940s, from his participation in the formation of the municipality of Mirante do Paranapanema, to his role in local politics, with a description and analysis of the conflicts in which he was involved. ; for example, struggles for land and the formation of the Communist Party of Brazil in the region.
