Using comics in teaching undergraduate Chemistry

Abstract

Considering the difficulties of communication with young students nowadays, used to fast communication, with short texts and generally in digital media instead of texts printed on paper, in addition to the needs imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, which brought the need of seeking didactic support material with these characteristics, this proposal has the goal of using comic books (comics) as a playful way to make learning more attractive to students, with the purpose of using technological resources to promote the development of skills such as creativity, reading, text interpretation, problem-solving, decision making, critical and evaluative thinking, in addition to bringing students closer to real situations in which the knowledge acquired in the classroom can be used. The opportunity to develop these strategies arose with the offer of an undergraduate student versed in the use of free graphics programs, the candidate in this application, during the use of comic books in a Qualitative Analytical Chemistry course. The comics will be prepared and submitted to volunteer students and their results in the presentation of evaluated content, through questionnaires and feedback, and will feature the participation of a doctoral student who started the work. If the material is approved by the students involved, it will be made available on the Internet through digital channels.(AU)
