Abstract

None of the available assessment instruments cross-culturally adapted to Brazilian Portuguese offers a specific analysis of the experience of knee pain related to osteoarthritis. For this reason, the aim of this study is to perform the translation, cross-cultural adaptation, and validation into Brazilian Portuguese of the Measure of Intermittent and Constant Osteoarthritis Pain (ICOAP) in individuals with knee osteoarthritis (KO). It is about carrying out a study of cross-cultural adaptation and analysis of measurement properties. The research will be carried out in two integrated health care clinics, located in the city of São Paulo. Individuals of both sexes will be included in the study, with a defined medical diagnosis: knee OA, complaint of pain and/or alteration of function in the lower limb(s), with a duration greater than or equal to 12 weeks, morning stiffness, Pain intensity verified by the numerical pain scale (NPS) greater than or equal to three and those with the mother tongue - Brazilian Portuguese. The process of translating and transcultural adaptation of ICOAP into Brazilian Portuguese will follow international criteria, with the following stages being carried out: translation, synthesis of translations, back-translation, analysis by a committee of experts, testing of the pre-final version, and definition of the final version. The psychometric properties evaluated will be: structural validity through factor analysis (exploratory and confirmatory), test-retest reliability through the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), internal consistency through Cronbach's alpha; construct validity through correlations between the END, International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC), Medical Outcome Study 36 - Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36), Western Ontario and McMaster Universities (WOMAC). These analyzes will be essential to support the use of the ICOAP in individuals with knee OA, both in clinical practice and in research.(AU)
