Abstract

Arthritis is a common debilitating illness in human and veterinary medicine. Continuous research for pain treatment, inflamatory process reduction and cartilage protection and restoration is being made. Studies using rat models for arthritis date since the 80's decade, regarding genetic factors, inflamation description, therapy evaluation methods and new treatments for this disease. The current project aims to evaluate the analgesic effect of metamizole, carprofen and tramadol in a rat model of arthritis in the femorotibiopatellar articulation through open field test, rat grimace scale, grooming-transfer test, nest building evaluation, body weight measurement and food and water consumption. Additionaly, we are going to investigate the side effects and analgesia provided by subcutaneous administration of carprofen (10 mg/kg), metamizole (177,8 and 500 mg/kg) and tramadol (17,8 mg/kg) in rats and describe a new accute arthritis model.
