Abstract The pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus is the latest and greatest pandemic we have experienced in recent decades. Thus, the health system is undergoing profound changes related to the use of resources and the distribution of health supplies. Choosing a patient for a urological surgical procedure, such as a radical prostatectomy, within the context of the pandemic, involves great responsibility, as it increases the risk of infection for the patient, health professionals, and other patients in the hospital. As in several Brazilian Urology centers and in other countries, our Urology service needed to consider the modality and moment for the treatment of each patient, according to the staging of the prostate cancer and availability of the service during the different moments of the pandemic. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the possible detrimental effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the oncological outcomes of patients with prostate cancer undergoing radical prostatectomy regarding clinical staging, presence of adverse pathological outcomes, and perioperative complications in a pre-COVID-19 pandemic period (from November 2018 to February 2020) and during the COVID-19 pandemic (March 2020 to June 2021) in a Urology service in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. A retrospective, observational, non-randomized study will be carried out through a case review. Hospital Municipal Vila Santa Catarina will be the data collection center for the study. Anonymous (non-identifiable) data about the patients, characteristics of the prostate cancer, the surgery, and the postoperative period will be collected from the medical records for further statistical analysis.(AU) | |
