Abstract

Musculoskeletal pain has a high prevalent in children and adolescents and causes serious consequences to general health status and quality of life. EQ-5D instruments are aimed to measure health-related quality of life and it allow to generate the quality-adjusted life years. Objectives: 1) to understand the prevalence, economic burden and physical interventions of musculoskeletal pain in children and adolescents; and 2) to investigate the measurement properties of the EQ-5D instruments in children and adolescents and to develop the value set for the EQ-5D-Y-3L in Brazil. Methods: The project is structured in the two parts: 1) a cross-sectional study to determine the prevalence of disabling musculoskeletal pain and two systematic reviews to identify the economic burden of musculoskeletal pain in children and adolescents and the effectiveness of physical interventions to manage and prevent musculoskeletal pain in children and adolescentes; 2) a methodological study to analyse the measurement properties of the EQ-5D-Y-3L and the EQ-5D-Y-5L in Brazilian children and adolescents with and without disabling musculoskeletal pain. A systematic review of the measurement properties of the EQ-5D instruments (EQ-5D-3L, EQ-5D-5L, EQ-5D-Y-3L and EQ-5D-Y-5L) in children and adolescents. In addition, a valuation study to develop the value set of the EQ-5D-Y-3L instrument for Brazilian children and adolescents. Considerations: The results will contribute to the area of musculoskeletal pain in children and adolescents, provide evidence of the measurement properties of the EQ-5D instruments and develop the value set for the EQ-5D-Y-3L in Brazil.
