Abstract

Cancer is a disease that involves the disordered growth of cells, which can disseminate all over the body. The mammary tumor is among the most common in the human and canine species, and the similarities in occurrence between these two species are very important. In addition, they both present a high rate of mortality and morbidity. In this disease, there are clinical and laboratory prognostic indicators. The TNM classification system is a clinical indicator proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO). As for laboratory indicators, histopathological and phenotypic classifications are used. In women, an immunohistochemical profile is established for use in the clinical routine of patients with breast cancer. In order to classify the phenotype, the following markers are used for the immunohistochemistry test: estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2). From that, the phenotypic classification defines the subtypes luminal A, luminal B, HER2 overexpressed, and triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), which presents prognostic and predictive differences. In this way, studies have shown the triple-negative subtype is the most aggressive, presenting high recurrence and metastasis (indexes). However, for canine mammary tumors (CMT), this phenotypic classification is still not widely used and studies on this thematic are scarce. Therefore, the objective of this study is to analyze the expressions of the referred markers, aiming at the identification of TNBC and accompanying the experimental group follow-up, to investigate its prognosis.(AU)
