Abstract

Several secondary metabolites have been isolated from Asteraceae species by the NPPNS research group in its more than 50 years of existence. Some of these isolated substances exhibited significant biological activities, such as anti-inflammatory and analgesic, and cytotoxic. However, most of the studies conducted by the group were focused on substances of medium and low polarity, and highly polar constituents were still poorly investigated. The development of spectrometric techniques and the possibility of analysis in the mixture, associated with molecular network studies, has allowed a significant advance in the characterization of polar actives. Thus, the present proposal will contribute to the expansion of the chemical knowledge of the family, in addition to the standardization of the MALDI-MS and MS/MS technique for such characterizations and identifications in extracts and fractions. In this sense, the main objective of this project is the identification and, when necessary, the isolation of highly polar compounds from different species of Asteraceae, mainly those that present biological/ecological activity. For this, we intend to work with the application of the LC-MS/MS technique combined with the tools of the GNPS platform for the identification and characterization of these components in extracts and fractions.(AU)
