Abstract

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease has become one of the main causes of cirrhosis in the West world. However, the hospitalization reasons in this population are still not well understood. The aim of this study is to evaluate the proportion of hospitalizations due to cirrhosis secondary to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in the Botucatu Medical School/UNESP in the last ten years, to evaluate the hospitalization reasons, the incidence of nosocomial infections, and the hospital mortality in this population, focusing on infectious causes. It is expected to achieve a better understanding of the role of infections as triggers of cirrhosis decompensation in cases of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
