Abstract

Houses and their gardens and yards are commonly seen as something private and the streets as a public space associated with the care of the public authorities or even their negligence. However, if we look at very old practices that remain present and are being revived from planting, in the backyards and gardens of houses (and today in common areas of buildings and condominiums) species that are to be shared with neighbors and relatives, as well as in the city's squares and unoccupied spaces, we see vegetable gardens being planted and also species to be enjoyed collectively, we realize that perhaps this public/private dichotomy does not work so well. Moving in this direction, this research aims to verify how gardens, backyards, vegetable gardens and flowerbeds in the urban space are constituted as a way to build a space of affection, social relations and connection with the memory ties of collective life. We propose to carry out an ethnography in neighborhoods in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Barcelona in order to think about the connections of these practices and their social productions in these 3 cities.Abstract of the integral project of which the satage of research in Barcelona is integrated and which is already approved in the Regular Research Grant 2021/10075-4 (AU)
