Abstract

Human and veterinary drugs, natural hormones, cosmetic and personal hygiene products, disinfection products, pesticides and others make up the diverse group of MPOs. Due to analytical advances in recent decades and the high consumption of these molecules, several observed in significant concentrations in sanitary sewage. Due to the persistence of some organic micropollutants (MPOs) in conventional effluent treatment systems, the occurrence of these compounds in water resources has become a concern, given the deleterious effects that these compounds can cause on human and environmental health. As much as the potential of anaerobic processes in removing several MPOs present in sanitary sewage is reported in the scientific literature, several studies demonstrate the persistence of these molecules after passing through Effluent Treatment Plants (ETE) that use the technologies of anaerobic sludge blanket reactor (UASB). In this sense, this study will seek to evaluate the influence of hydraulic arrest time (TDH) on the removal of seven MPOs commonly detected in sanitary sewage, which consist of Triclosan (TCS), ibuprofen (IBU), diclophane (DCF), atenolol (ATL), propranolol (PRP), carbamazepine (CBZ) and caffeine (CAF), in a bench-top UASB.
