Abstract

The objective of this study will be to evaluate in vitro the addition of different concentrations (0.25%, 0.5% and 1%) of quercetin to bleaching gels based on hydrogen peroxide at 35% on color alteration, microhardness and roughness of the tooth enamel. The whitening gels will be: 1) Negative control (no treatment); 2) 35% hydrogen peroxide (PH); 3) PH + 0.25% Quercetin; 4) PH + 0.5% Quercetin; 5) PH + 1% Quercetin. The gels will be applied only once, during 3 sessions of 40 minutes/session, every 7 days, totaling 21 days. The discs will remain in artificial saliva, which will be changed daily. Then, the color change will be evaluated by quantified reflection spectrophotometry (E*ab, WID and E00). The initial surface hardness and roughness of the treatment will be measured and after the bleaching protocol the final surface hardness (SHF) and final surface roughness (Ra) will be determined. Variables that present normal and homogeneous distribution will be submitted to analysis of variance (p<0.05). Otherwise, they will be submitted to the Kruskal-Wallis test (p<0.05). The multiple comparison test will be Student-Newman-Keuls.
