Abstract

Ecosystem restoration is considered an important practice to mitigate climate change. In order to accurately assess how much carbon forests undergoing can uptake, it is crucial to better develop biomass prediction methods. We still lack a biomass allometric equation that could be broadly applied for forests undergoing restoration at different ages, in the Atlantic Forest. One of the factors included in biomass equations is wood density. This work aims to create a database of wood density for different tree species in forest restoration sites of different ages, varying according to restoration method. We will take destructive measurements of biomass in 10 plots of forest restoration plantations and 10 plots of forests undergoing natural regeneration, in the Atlantic Forest. For all individuals sampled, we will determine wood density and create a database including species, restoration site age and wooddensity. (AU)
