Abstract

The research project seeks to analyze how the Brazilian migration policy was elaborated and implemented between 1946 and 1962, considering the international and internal migratory movements and the agreements signed between international institutions and national bodies, especially the Immigration and Colonization Council and the National Institute of Immigration and Colonization. In the post-World War II period, new international immigration flows entered Brazil. The government showed a clear interest in the process of selection and referral of European immigrants and refugees, participating in the activities carried out by international bodies responsible for controlling and directing migrations. In this context, the rates of internal displacements rose and followed different trends, with a wide redistribution of the population in the national territory.
