Abstract

This research aims to investigate, describe and reflect on design in the interior of Palácio da Alvorada, Palácio do Planalto, Palácio Itamaraty and the National Congress, based on the articulation between space, furniture design and works of art.Such institutional institutions have a collection of furniture, tapestry, painting and sculpture that often make up the interiors with a certain idea of Brazilian identity and in dialogue with the architectural project. However, currently, the original location of several pieces has changed, due to the mobility of objects and new demands for the use of environments, which makes it difficult to understand the design of the interiors at the time of their conception.To understand how design solutions are concerned, it is essential to survey primary sources of different types, drawn up between 1956 and 1970. The objects and internal spaces of each palace will be studied comparatively, starting from the stages of conception, project development and execution. In addition, we will discuss the concepts inherent to the research questions, such as design, material culture and Brazilian identity.
