Abstract

The main objective of this project is to analyze social, economic and ecological aspects of family farming systems in eight municipalities in the Mato Grosso Amazon region, relating them to the capacities and resources needed to increase the level of resilience of socio-ecological systems. We intend to answer the following questions: 1) How do agroecological family enterprises influence the family, community and institutional social relations of farmers? 2) Were the socioeconomic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on family farmers using agroecological techniques for food production similar to the impacts suffered by family farmers using conventional techniques? 3) How can agroecological family enterprises contribute to increasing the resilience of local socioecological systems? Social, economic and ecological aspects will be analyzed through interviews with farmers, community leaders and key informants, representing civil society organizations, and public and private institutions. Based on previous studies, where strategies to strengthen the resilience of family farming were identified, we intend to understand and study the socioeconomic and ecological effects of production systems, in facing and recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as to elucidate factors that lead to greater resilience, considering adversities caused by health, economic and environmental crises.
