Abstract

This study will evaluate the ability of Cystatin from sugar cane(CaneCPI-5) associated with Vitamin E in the prevention of dental erosion invitro. Complete human third molar teeth will be used, recentlyextracted and disinfected to make 72 enamel specimenshuman. The blocks will be randomly separated and ordered into 6 groups,that will be submitted to different treatments, which: (G1) Elmex Erosionprotection (positive control); (G2) Deionized water (negative control); (G3)CaneCPI-5; (G4) Vitamin E oily 100%; (G5) 100% Oily Vitamin E +CaneCPI-5; (G6) CaneCPI-5 + 100% oily Vitamin E will be appliedindividually according to the group (200 ¼l, for 2 min at 37 °C).Subsequently, the PA will be formed (individually) by adding a pool ofhuman saliva over each sample (250 ¼l, 2 hours, 37 °C, constant stirring).Then, the samples will be submitted to the erosive challenge (individually).For this, they will be immersed in citric acid (1%, pH 3.6, 1 mL, 1 min, 37 °C,70 rpm). The samples will be washed (10 s) and dried (5 s) carefully betweeneach application (treatment, PA formation and acid challenge). Theseprocedures will be performed once a day for 3 consecutive days.The blocks will be evaluated for initial and final surface hardness, usingmicrodurometer (25 g for 10 s). The percentage of loss of hardness of the groupswill be calculated and if the data pass the normality tests andhomogeneity, will be submitted to analysis of variance at 1 criterion and to the testTukey's (p<0.05).
