Abstract

The "brown dog tick" (Rhipicephalus sanguineus) is a species of wide national and international relevance from a veterinary medical perspective, due to its wide geographic distribution and transmission of a variety of infectious agents, such as viruses, bacteria, protozoa and nematodes. Conventional methods of tick control use synthetic acaricides that cause resistance of ticks and damage to the environment, such as contamination of soil and water courses, consequently affecting fauna and flora. Cases of damage to non-target organisms have also been documented in the scientific literature. In this scenario, new methods based on the use of natural acaricides produced from essential oil of plants have been tested, with the objective of mitigating damages to the environment, to non-target organisms and to avoid the resistance of ticks to the acaricide. This project will evaluate the histopathological effect of Lippia schaueriana Mart essential oil. (Verbenaceae), an endemic plant of the Caatinga (Brazilian biome), in the liver and kidney of the experimental mammalian model (Mus musculus) and in the viability of mammalian cells (J774) in culture (in vitro).
