Abstract

This post-doctoral project intends to carry out a critical-genetic edition of "Um Brasil parabrasileiros", comparing this original by Carolina Maria de Jesus with the preparation material and finalresult of Journal de Bitita, published in 1982 in Paris. The posthumous French edition uses only twonotebooks out of seven, which correspond to the author´s memorialistic novel. Besides, it has severalinterventions, such as cuts, division into chapters and adapted translation aimed at the French public. The book was reissued in Brazil in 1986, 2007 and 2014 as Diário de Bitita (Nova Fronteira / Bertolucci/ Editora Sesi), through direct translation from the French language, and therefore filled with exponentialediting issues: in the original fixation, in the translation into French, in the translation of the translationwithout a comparison criterion with the original. Thus, the analysis of the manuscripts, preparationdocuments and the author's reception in France, may favor a broader historical and literaryunderstanding than the current one, sustained by studies of critical establishment of the text and geneticstudy of both originals and supports. To this end, the meeting with editors and translators of the bookwill be urgent in the preparation of the proposed critical edition. In Rio de Janeiro, it will be possible toanalyze these documents together with the archives of the National Library Foundation of Rio de Janeiroand the Moreira Sales Institute, which house the material in question. The work being received at theIEB-USP will advance in the discussions, since this institution represents one of the greatest spaces ofcontribution to Brazilian genetic and textual criticism. In France, it will be possible to analyze thesedocuments along the CREPAL research axis, called "Raconter la vie: les expériences-limite". Theresearch will have interlocutors at Sorbonne Nouvelle, being also able to establish dialogues at theInstitut des Textes et Manuscrits Modernes (ITEM-ENS), where other originals by the same author wereworked on in the course of the doctorate (UNICAMP). Located in the same city, the institute specializesin studies of manuscript archives, enabling conceptualization, genesis, restoration and revision ofunpublished works. The conjunction of such studies will certainly make it possible to clarify still obscurepoints about the mechanisms of Carolina's memoir reread in loco of her creation, reissue, reception andmanipulation of her literary estate. Her memory, understood as a general concept in the oscillationsbetween versions of the same text, transmuted according to her affections, can bring to light theprocedures and interventions and compilation, with a perspective of a more reliable new edition of theprocess of creating her memorialistic narratives.
