Abstract

Environmental services and the flow between them provided by ecosystems are essential for life on Earth, and their maintenance is facilitated through the conservation of natural resources. However, urban advances and industrial development, combined with unsustainable agricultural practices, have altered the quantity and quality of these services, reflecting changes in land use and land cover. Given the above, this work has the general objective of raising potential environmental services offered by two river basins with different climate and vegetation characteristics, one of them in Brazil (Campinas, São Paulo) and the other in Portugal (Coimbra). For this purpose, information of interest will be obtained: potential services offered by different categories of land use and occupation and geoindicators (pedology, slope, biome and vegetation). Complementarily, a landscape analysis will be applied in the field in order to compare the surveyed services in each study basin and make it possible to rank their degree of importance for the desired environmental quality. With the results to be obtained, it is expected to verify which areas are more likely to offer environmental services in quantity and quality and if such a configuration can be verified in both areas of study. It is also expected that this study will help environmental and urban management at the municipal level in relation to the different uses and occupation of the soil and its strengths and weaknesses. In addition to strengthening the ties of existing work between the team of researchers. (AU)
