Abstract

The research here exposed proposes the study of the theory and the production of the housing thought and built for the French urban workers, especially, for those in the city of Paris, better known as Habitations a Bon Marché, or simply by the initials HBM, and its relations with the production of worker's housing in the city of São Paulo in the beginning of the 20th century, better known as casas e vilas operárias. With this intent, it is envisioned an analysis in two dimensions, the first around the bibliographical sources by studying the recent academical production about the topic and by reading the texts of French "health researchers" of the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th about housing who appears as sources for the Brazilians who were writing in the same period. The second dimension of analysis is related to the actual production of these houses by investigating the HBMs built in the first years of the 19th century as a way of investigating similarities and differences with the production of casas e vilas operárias of São Paulo of the same period, something of great importance for the ongoing master's research. Throughout the master's research we identified that the theoretical production about housing for workers through the "health researches" writings, specialized magazines and legislations produced at that time shows a great level of knowledge of those involved in the process with what was happening in housing in Europe and, especially, in France. Such knowledge was not transmitted throughout the years and, therefore, source that were available for writers of the beginning of the 20th century are now only available in archives in France. This research pretends to complement the knowledge in the field of study by accessing the sources mentioned above and those complementary. (AU)
