Abstract

In Brazil, most trout farms are small as a result of the limited availability of cold water. Adding value and diversifying products have been used as an alternative to improve the profitability of this activity. In this context, the establishment of different skin colors strain has deserved attention, both in research and potential phenotypic markers, and commercially by fish farms that practice recreational fishing. These strains have different growth patterns and may therefore have different nutritional requirements and body composition. Thus, the objective is to determine the body amino acid concentrations of trout strains of different colors, evaluating the morphology of the dorsal and caudal muscles. Trout from two batches will be evaluated, one with a wild standard phenotype and the other blue color with a 14-month (post-fertilization age) kept separately in two 12 m² tanks at the Campos do Jordão Research and Development Unit of the Fisheries Institute/ APTA/SAA. The tanks will be provided with a constant flow of water and the fish will be fed with extruded feed with 3-4 mm granulometry and 40% crude protein. Tissue and blood samples of 10 wild trout and 10 blue trout will be conserved and analyzed for amino acid determination and histology of dorsal and caudal musculature after 48 hours of fasting and 2 hours after feeding. Amino acids from blood, liver and muscle will be evaluated and separated in HPLC by the peak in said retention time (Rt). White and red muscle fibers will be analyzed for diameter (µm) and density (fibers/mm²) in a microscope coupled to an image analysis system. Data analysis will be performed considering 2 strains and 2 periods (before and after feeding), with five replicates (fish). Analysis will be performed using SAS OnDemand for Academics, Copyright © 2020 SAS Institute Inc.
