Abstract

Among surgical protocols for the repair/reconstruction of critical-size bone defects, the use of bone grafting or biocompatible materials are indicated for these cases. However, the presence of alloplastic materials may in some way positively or negatively affect the repair process into respective host. The aim of this study is to evaluate, by histologic, immunohistochemistry, and imaging analysis of bone repair in bone defects created in calvarium of rats using a new national brand of the bioglass (OsteoGlass® - OrhtoTrauma®) for bone regeneration. 96 Wistar rats will be used, into 4 groups, 24 animalsfor each group: Control group with blood clot (CG); Group filled with Bio-Oss (GBO), being the golden standard product in the bone graft market; 2 groups filled with OsteoGlass® bioglass, test material, being COG- (granules between 0,075 to 0,0125mm) and COG+ (granules between 0,5 to 0,85mm). Each group consist of 04 subgroups, according to euthanasia days: 7, 15, 30 and 60 days. After the experimental periods, pieces will be processed in laboratories according to preparation of each analysis. Data will besubmitted to variance homogeneity and normality tests to choose betweenparametric or non-parametric tests. Intergroup comparisons will be performed toparametric data by One-way ANOVA and Tukey's post-test, and non-parametricdata by Kruskal-Wallis test and Dunn's post-test. Regarding a significance level of 5%.
