Abstract

The studente will carry out activities to survey and systematize data related to Brazil's presence in multilateral trade bodies, with emphasis on the World Trade Organization (WTO). Together with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the WTO constitutes one of the most important forums for the political insertion of emerging market democracies - a key concept for this thematic project. This segment of the research in which the fellow will work directly seeks to map the presence of Brazil in these instances, with emphasis on the Brazilian role in the WTO. This action has a political dimension (rounds of negotiations), an adjudicatory dimension (cases in which Brazil was a party), and a quasi-adjudicatory dimension (trade defense disputes and disputes within the scope of the Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures and the Committee of Technical Barriers to Trade.) The fellow will be responsible for building a database with data on the Brazilian presence in the WTO, based on the cleavages described. This dimension of the project seeks to understand how the challenges of democratization and/or globalization marked out Brazil's presence in these instances of multilateral trade.
