Abstract

Migraine is a complex brain dysfunction disorder with a genetic background that can be influenced by environmental factors (Goadsby et al. 2017), with this, it produces significant impacts on quality of life, leading to an important physical and emotional burden that makes coping with this disease difficult. Through qualitative research, we can observe deeper dimensions to help the patient in all their contexts, fully valuing the descriptions of lived experiences and individual essences, to better understand the disease. That said, it is a qualitative study with the objective of ascertaining the expectation and experiences of patients with migraine and understanding the individual perception regarding the understanding of the disease. We will recruit 30 subjects of both sexes, aged between 18 and 55 years, with a diagnosis of migraine provided by a neurologist according to the 3rd edition of the International Classification of Headache Disorders. Those with another diagnosis of headache, history of trauma to the face and/or neck will be excluded; cervical disc herniation or cervical osteoarthrosis; any systemic degenerative disease. Sociodemographic and clinical data of the participants will be collected, and they will be submitted to an in-depth recorded interview to collect their experience in relation to their headache, lasting between 40 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes. The recorded interviews will ensure anonymity and will be stored and transcribed in literal text that will be double-checked. These processed data will be analyzed via thematic analysis.
