Abstract

This project is part of the doctoral research "The trajectory of Heleieth Saffioti (1934-2010) in the Brazilian sociological and feminist field". Comprising cultural studies, this ongoing doctoral research scrutinizes the trajectory of Heleieth Saffioti with support from FAPESP. She was a pioneer in women's studies in Latin America and a pioneer in Brazilian Social Sciences because she was the first woman to defend a thesis in the country in the field of social studies. Her senior thesis entitled "Women in class society: myth and reality" was supervised by Florestan Fernandes, defended in 1967 and published in 1969, and became a reference among intellectuals and activists. Despite this, we note that there is a lack of systematization about this important figure in women's history. Hence, our research question was born: what is your trajectory in the field of Brazilian sociology and feminism? Our objective has been to investigate the trajectory of the sociologist in the light of her encounters, positions, interlocutions and receptions. This research project for a doctoral internship abroad aims to broaden the horizons of this story, encompassing the repercussions of her ideas, as well as the dialogues she established with French intellectuals in her travels across the country. We start from a sociological, historiographical and political approach of Bourdiesian inspiration to understand the trajectory and the political and scientific field in which and with which she contributed.
