Abstract

The aim of this work is to translate and annotate the fourth book of Epigrammaton Libri Quattuor (Firenzi, 1497), by Michelle Marullo (1453-1500), a humanist of Greek descent who lived in Italy. The fourth book contains 34 epigrams, written in Latin, of various lenghts, themes and metrical structures, adding up to 601 verses, since the authors epigrammatic work is characterized by lengthy poems, many of them exceeding 20 verses, reaching the maximum length of 76 verses. The translation will be preceded by an introduction including a brief biography of the author and a succinct presentation of the philosophical and literary background of Italian Humanism, as well as by analysis of the Liber Quartus regarding not only the intertextual dialog with the Ancient tradition but also the intratextual dialog with the three preceding books of epigrams.
