EXPRESSION PROFILE OF CYP2E1 AND GSTT1 GENES IN THE ORAL MUCOSA OF VAPE USERS

Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate, by means of exfoliative cytology and RT-qPCR, the expression of carcinogen and xenobiotic metabolizing genes in the oral mucosa of vape users. The participants will be divided into two groups: Vape group (VG) - 24 regular and exclusive vape users; Control group (CG) - 24 non-smoking, non-vaping subjects, matched in gender and age to the VG. Smears will be collected from the buccal mucosa and from the edge of the tongue. The RNA extraction will be made by the Trizol method. The gene expression of CYP2E1 and GSTT1 will be evaluated by RT-qPCR. The data will receive statistical treatment according to Student's t test (if parametric) or Mann-Whitney test (if not parametric). Associations between variables and clinical data will be explored using Spearman's correlation coefficient. For all analyses, a significance level of 5% will be adopted
