Abstract

Musculoskeletal pain is one of the most prevalent symptoms in the world population and is associated with lifestyle, which is influenced by psychosocial factors. The literature points out that self-efficacy is a psychosocial factor associated with the practice of physical exercise, including in the rehabilitation of patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain. The self-regulation also seems to have the potential to influence lifestyle, as it allows the individual to remain active in the process of achieving goals and maintaining behaviors. However, it is not well known whether there is a relationship between both psychosocial factors and lifestyle. Thus, the primary objective of the study is to verify the relationship between self-efficacy and self-regulation and lifestyle in patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain. The secondary objectives are to characterize the levels of self-efficacy, self-regulation and lifestyle of these patients and to verify if there is an association between self-efficacy and self-regulation in these patients. Therefore, the study will consist of a sample of 105 patients of both sexes, aged over 18 years and diagnostic hypothesis of chronic musculoskeletal condition from a Physiotherapy Service. The evaluation will be accompanied by the completion of the Pain Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (PSEQ-10) to assess self-efficacy, the Short Self-Regulation Questionnaire (SSRQ) to assess self-regulation and the "Fantastic Lifestyle" test to assess lifestyle. Multiple Linear Regression will be used to verify the association of self-efficacy and self-regulation with lifestyle by the backward method. This analysis will also include the sample characterization variables that have association with lifestyle in a simple linear regression just to control for mediating factors. The associations between self-efficacy and self-regulation will be done by Pearson's or Spearman's Correlation Coefficient, depending on the distribution of data residuals. It is expected to find an association between psychosocial factors and lifestyle, as well as between psychosocial factors in patients with chronic shoulder pain.
