Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of incorporation of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) and sodium trimetaphosphate microparticles (TMP) in resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RIMIC) on the physical-mechanical properties. Specimens of each material (n=6) will be made: 1) CIVMR without ZnONPs/TMP (Control); 2) CIVMR with 1.0 % ZnONPs; 3) CIVMR with 2.0% ZnONPs; 4) CIVMR with 14.0% TMP; 5) CIVMR with 1.0% ZnONPs and 14.0% TMP and 6) CIVMR with 2.0% ZnONPs and 14.0% TMP (% m/m). The physical-mechanical properties of the CIVMR will be determined: Diametric tensile strength (RTD), Compressive strength (CR), Surface hardness of the materials (DS), Surface roughness (SR), Fluoride release (F), degree of conversion and morphological analysis of the CIVMRs containing or not containing TMP-ZnONPs by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The chemical composition of the samples will be established by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The activity on microbiological properties will be performed by Streptococcus Mutans adhesion test, biofilm assay and cell metabolism by MTT assay. For statistical analysis, the RTD, RC, DS, RS, F values will be considered as variables; the cytotoxicity assay will be performed in MDPC-23 odontoblast-like cells and quantified by the MTT method); and as a variation factor the type of CIVMR. The data will be submitted to normality and homoscedasticity tests to apply the statistical analysis best suited to the data distribution. The statistical program Sigmaplot® for Windows version 12.0 will be used, with significance at the 5% level.
