Abstract

This project aims to interpret and contrast the political dimensions of some of the decisive aesthetic-cultural catalysts in the formation of Brazilian culture, such as: the first era of the Romanticism and the totality of the national Cinema Novo. For this purpose of analysis, this study will rely on the critical-dialectical approach of interpretation, along the lines of critical theoreticians such as: Antonio Candido, Roberto Schwarz, Jean-Claude Bernardet e Ismail Xavier. For effects of comparison, those aesthetic catalysts will be confronted dialectically with the intention of understanding their respective social and historical particularities. Amongst the evidenced characteristics, there are: the christian-paradisiac-idealism, a colonial heirdom present in the bases of 19th century Brazilian Romanticism, and the Brazilian underdevelopment, incorporated as a form of aesthetical subversion and critical reflection by the national Cinema Novo. - The final intent of this research is to establish which are the socio political influences that are made present in each of this moments; attentively considering that the contraposition between the reputed edenic image, a delusive image formulated by the Romanticism and the disenchantment provided later, in the 20th century, by the negative view of the Cinema Novo's forefront, elaborates a complex outlook in the comprehension of the mentalities that were used to construe and forge the different ideas of Brazil.
