Abstract

Set-based methods have gained attention in the last decades in a wide range of applications due to their robustness and reliability, since the obtained results are often guaranteed. Nevertheless, while set-based estimation and fault diagnosis are relatively consolidated for linear systems, set-based estimation and fault diagnosis of nonlinear discrete-time systems is still an open field. The research project will focus on the investigation of new methods for set-based estimation and fault diagnosis. These explore the benefits of using constrained zonotopes and mixed zonotopes as main set representation, which already present advantages in set-based state estimation and fault diagnosis of a few classes of discrete-time systems in the work being developed in the postdoctoral research of the candidate. This is resulting in improvements and extensions of the previous methods, and the application of these algorithms to practical systems such as joint state and parameter estimation of battery packs, load transportation using unmanned aerial vehicles, and computation of safe routes for urban air mobility. In particular, the computation of safe routes for unmanned aerial vehicles using constrained zonotopes, and the development of a MATLAB toolbox for state and parameter estimation, fault diagnosis, and reachability analysis using zonotopes and constrained zonotopes, will be object of study during the research internship abroad period.
