Abstract

The objective is to evaluate the eating and sleep patterns of athletes during ultramarathon, as well as the relationship with nutritional knowledge, beliefs and eating habits related to sport. It is also the aim to translate and validate a questionnaire to assess the nutritional knowledge of ultraendurance athletes. In the first phase, the translation and validation of the nutritional knowledge questionnaire for ultra-endurance athletes (ULTRA-Q) will be performed. The second phase will consist of data collection with athletes and supporters in the "Brazil 135 Ultramarathon". In the month before the competition, 100 athletes and their support team (coach and pacer) will receive self-administered questionnaires to assess health characteristics, sports history, sleep pattern (Horne and Ostberg Chronotype, Munich Chronotype Questionnaire, Mini Sleep Questionnaire, Athlete's Sleep Behavior, daytime sleepiness), nutritional knowledge, beliefs and eating habits. A reduced sample (n=20 athletes and pacers) will also have their usual sleep assessed (sleep diary). The reduced sample will have food and sleep evaluated before, during and after the ultramarathon, and the 20 athletes will use an actigraph since the day before, during and after the competition, while their pacers will fill a sleep diary. The sample will fill in a food record of what they consume from the morning of the event until the day after the race. For the validation of the questionnaire, Kappa statistics will be used for agreement and evaluation of Cronbach's alpha for consistency assessment. For inferential analysis, the choice of the tests will be made after evaluating the normality of the sample. Tests will be chosen to compare the variables and evaluate the association between the parameters (significance level p<0.05). (AU)
