The use of pesticides promotes benefits in pest control and food production, however, inappropriate use poses a serious risk to humans and wildlife. Tebuconazole is a systemic fungicide of the triazole group. Due to its physicochemical characteristics, it is found in soil, water and commercialized food, thus leading a significant portion of the population to long-term exposure to the fungicide. Studies show that the compound is capable of inducing toxicity in some tissues, such as the liver. Recent studies report that tebuconazole is capable of inducing oxidative stress in the cardiac tissue of animals treated in vivo for long periods. However, the synergistic effect of the interaction between fungicides and pesticides, e.g. bifenthrin of the pyrethroid class, is still little known. Additionally, it is not known what is the minimum dose of tebuconazole and bifenthrin administered in vivo that does not cause adverse effects on cardiac tissue. Thus, the objective is to evaluate the cardiotoxic effects in Wistar rats treated orally for 28 consecutive days only tebuconazole, bifenthrin and the combination tebuconazole + Benfentrine. (AU)
