Abstract

Gamification is an active learning strategy. In a previous study by our research group, an educational game was developed and used in classes on tonicity and osmolarity. In the students' perception, this strategy was useful for learning these concepts and the effects of intravenous solutions on the volume of red blood cells, but no increase was observed in the grades obtained in tests on the same subject. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of this educational game on the learning of students of a Dentistry course. Students will be randomly divided into 2 groups: traditional method and educational game. The first group will have a theoretical class and the second, a dialogued class combined with an educational game. Before the class and one week after, the students will respond respectively to a pre and post-test on tonicity, osmolarity and effects of intravenous solutions on the volume of red blood cells. Learning will be evaluated by analyzing the cognitive gain in each group, comparing the scores between post and pre-test.
