Abstract

The prevalence of overweight in women of childbearing age has been increasing in recent years and maternal nutritional status is an important factor for the development of offspring. Although overweight women may generate babies with normal weight and a normal outcome in the immediate postnatal period, a programming effect on the fetus may reveal later in life. Most studies have used only birth weight as a proxy for fetal growth, however, this is a static measure that does not account for growth patterns before birth. The aim of this study is to evaluate the association between normal maternal pre-gestational BMI (<25 kg/m²) and excessive BMI (>25 kg/m²) with biometrics and body composition measurements of the fetus. The research is being developed in the municipality of Araraquara, being inserted in the thematic project FAPESP (process 2015/03333-6) in progress since 2017. Socioeconomic and demographic data, life habits, anthropometric data and body composition of pregnant women will be collected from forms previously tested in pregnant women and through tests performed, and these women are separated into two groups, one of normal BMI and the other excessive. Fetal growth and adiposity measurements are being obtained through ultrasound examination performed at three different moments. The data will be made available in its own research platform (cloud) in Excel spreadsheet format, exported and analyzed in the stata statistical program, version 14.0.
