Abstract

Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative condition that is characterized by the death of dopaminergic neurons of the substantia nigra pars compacta of the brain, and that includes motor as well as non-motor symptoms. An important aspect of this pathology is a marked neuroinflammation, which causes a neurotoxic deleterious cycle, which promotes the death of even more cells in the central nervous system. AD-16 is a recently discovered substance capable of reducing the expression of proinflammatory cytokines, such as IL-1², IL-12 and TNF-±, and of increasing the expression of antiinflammatory cytokines like IL-4, IL-10 in bothinduced and genetic models for the Alzheimer's Disease. We will use the toxin 6-hydroxydopamine for the induction of a model of PD in C57BL/6 male mice and immunohistochemistry techniques for proteins involved in PD pathology, such as tyrosine-hydroxylase and markers of microglial cells, and immunoblotting with labeling for some of the above cited cytokines. Thus, we seek the comprehension of AD-16 possible effects, after oral administration, on the contention of neuroinflammation also in PD and on the disease progression.
