Abstract

What conditions high-intensity affiliation? Answering this question using the first national panel with affiliates, investigating the partisan engagement of affiliates engaged more than 20 hours a month in the light of the current theoretical debate and adding a dimension of analysis not faced by the literature: the ideological one. I test hypotheses 1) High-intensity participation is determined by collective incentives and cognitive resources; 2) Members of left-wing parties are more engaged than members of right-wing parties. The project aims to shed light on how high-intensity participation is associated with different patterns of party engagement in Brazil. (AU)
