Abstract

Breast milk is essential for nutrition in early life, being responsible for meeting nutritional, hormonal and immunological needs. Provides benefits for the puerperal woman, through the prevention of breast and uterine cancer, less postpartum bleeding and weight restoration. However, breastfeeding is related to economic, cultural, demographic and psychic factors that can result in early weaning. The study aims to evaluate the importance of an educational intervention capable of qualifying confidence and safety in breastfeeding, called self-efficacy in breastfeeding, in association with the duration of exclusive breastfeeding. For the intervention, the serial album "I can breastfeed my son" will be used, in addition to the application of the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale for all participants. The study population will consist of postpartum women hospitalized in the rooming-in of the maternity hospital of the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of Botucatu - Unesp. A comparison will be made between the characteristics of the intervention and control groups. Then, the two groups will be compared in terms of outcomes (self-efficacy score in breastfeeding and the duration of exclusive breastfeeding), and the follow-up will last for 180 days, with the first approach being face-to-face in the rooming-in and the next ones by telephone. The research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Faculdade de Medicina de Botucatu, UNESP, under Opinion number: 5.927.149 and CAAE: 67350123.0.0000.5411.
