Abstract

Introduction: COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, a new virus of the coronavirus family. Transmission occurs mainly through the respiratory route, but research on other modes of transmission of the disease has been carried out and some studies have demonstrated the possibility of vertical transmission. The presence of viral infection ofthe fetus via the placenta can affect the formation of the auditory system and cause congenital hearing disorders. The early diagnosis of alterations in the child's auditory developmentallows the therapeutic intervention to be carried out as soon as possible, which contributes tothe reduction of damages to the child's communication and social interaction. Objective: to analyze the auditory development of infants whose mothers had COVID-19 during pregnancy, through auditory monitoring and the children's development throughout the first 12 months of life. Methodology: the sample will consist of an Experimental Group (EG) and a Control Group (CG). The EG will consist of infants up to one year old, whose mothers were infected with SARS-CoV-2, selected during the neonatal hearing screening carried out at Hospital da Mulher Prof. Dr. AristodemoPinotti-CAISM/Unicamp. The CG will consist of infants who were born at Hospital da Mulher Prof. Dr. AristodemoPinotti- CAISM/Unicampin 2019, prior to the first recorded case of COVID-19. To evaluate the auditory system of theEG, behavioral observation will be carried out for verbal and non-verbal sounds, BrainstemAuditory Evoked Potential (BAEP), Tympanometry, Transient Evoked Otoacoustic Emissions (EOAT) and Distortion Product Emissions (DPOAE) and Contralateral Emissions Suppression Evoked Otoacoustics. While for GC, a search for the results of audiological assessments, including BAEP, Tympanometry and TEOAE, DPOAE, will be carried out in the database of the Neonatal Hearing Health Program of the Hearing Diagnosis Outpatient Clinic of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Unicamp. The results will be tabulated and compared intra and inter-subjects through descriptive and conclusive statistical analysis.
