Abstract

In the current context of high rates of psychopharmaceuticals prescriptions, especially for womankind, this form of mental health treatment has been shown to be the only care that these women are offered. Therefore, understanding that the impacts of the patriarchal context affect women and, consequently, their mental health, this study seeks to understand whether and how the dynamics of prescription and consumption of psychopharmaceuticals may be related to strategies of controlling women's bodies. To this end, group meetings will be held with women users of psychopharmaceuticals participating in the training process offered by the International Observatory of Practices in Gaining Autonomy and Medication (GAM), based at the Federal University of São Paulo, campus Baixada Santista. The analysis of the results will take place, above all, from the perspective of feminist and gender studies, but also from theoretical-critical references about the phenomenon of the medicalization of life.
