Abstract

The Itaboraí and Volta Redonda sedimentary basins are the only ones in the context of the Continental Rift of Southeastern Brazil that present associated volcanism. In the Volta Redonda Basin, the volcanic manifestations are basanites that occur in the western sector of the Casa de Pedra Graben and were dated at 47.6 ± 0.7 Ma. This project proposes to investigate in greater detail the petrology of new finds of volcanic rocks mafic rocks in the Volta Redonda Basin and compare them with alkaline mafic rocks that occur as lamprophyre dikes in neighboring areas, relating them to the tectonic context of southeastern Brazil.
