Abstract

This work is part of the project "Flora Fanerogâmica do Estado de São Paulo", coordinated by Instituto de Pesquisas Ambientais of São Paulo State, and is also associated too project entitled "Diversificação e aprimoramento dos registros das coleções de herbários paulistas, com a ampliação da sua disponibilização virtual e análises espaciais, para avanço na documentação da biodiversidade Neotropical (Fapesp process 2022/12597-0)". Species of the genus Sloanea L. (Elaeocarpaceae) occurring in São Paulo state will be studied. The family Elaeocarpaceae is represented by 12 genera and around 600 species, distributed acrosss tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Sloanea is the richest genus within the family, occurring in Tropical America and Oceania, with c.45 species recorded in Brazil. The main goals of the project it to achieve a better knowledge of the species of Sloanea occurring in São Paulo and to produce a monograph, including identification key, descriptions and taxonomic coments. Steps of the research include revision of the literature and nomenclatural types, field collections, morphological anlayses of specimesn from the main herbaria of São Paulo (SJRP, SP, ESA, SPF e SPFR), as well as study of the specimens available on virtual herbaria and platforms. The results will be published as a chapter of the series Flora Fanerogâmica do estado de São Paulo.
