Abstract

According to evidence in the literature, nursing professionals perceive and carry stigmas and prejudices in their professional practice, generating direct implications in the way nurses see themselves and place themselves in society. Thus, it is understood that the circle of people who are around the individual who occupies the place of nurse has an influence on the way the professional sees herself and in the way the image of the nursing professional is reflected in the social environment; hence the importance of understanding the perceptions built by these people. Objective: To analyze the perception of family members of nursing students in relation to the profession. Method: This is a qualitative research, using Focus Group as a data collection technique and theoretical framework of Social Representations for the analysis of the information collected. Expected Results: It is expected that the study will enable the understanding of the image that the relatives of nursing students, in different moments of their graduation, build on the profession and how this imaginary impacts on the social image of the nurse, bringing to the light of knowledge weaknesses and strengths in this construction.
